Clicking on Question in IE9 crashes browser

It happens both on x86 and x64 windows 7. I know that it is the Microsoft to blame, and it is a Microsoft based stack of technologies on backend of the site.

The question under question is quite nice, but I could only read it using google cache.

IE8 under XP has also problems with it, but doesn't crash. Showed briefly (too fast to read completely) a message about refreshing in compatibility mode. – stevenvh Jul 16 '11 at 14:03
Can't reproduce this error on IE 9.0.8 – vulcan raven Jul 30 '12 at 6:56

Confirmed -- it crashes in IE9 for me as well.

I suspect some unusual edge condition with MathJax? Does it happen with JavaScript disabled?

Confirmed: with JavaScript disabled, no crash.

This one? mathjax.org/2010/08/25/news/mathml-in-html5-problems-with-ie9 (they even discussed this with the MSIE team.) – rwong Aug 17 '11 at 9:02
nice, that's probably it. – Jeff Atwood Aug 17 '11 at 11:02

I've reported this to Microsoft (the report is here, if you have a Connect account).

Workaround for now is switching to IE8 (or even IE7) mode, the page loads fine in those (press F12 and choose "Document mode").

Update: This bug report has just been marked "resolved", with the message

This issue was resolved in Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 4 released on 11/29/2011.

But still works in compatibility view, and the graphics are really ugly in the PC I'm using: I cannot see the full box of questions, and when answering I see the MatJax formulas fixed in the screen, superimposed to the editing box. @JeffAtwood – clabacchio Feb 2 '12 at 11:50
